Desktop Shortcut Problem

You can see from the enclosed screenshot what the problem is, and this is Windows 7. So far the only way I have been able to get rid of the black squares is to make the icons huge and then they fill the whole screen. No good at all.

Further to the above I forgot to mention that the shortcuts still work OK.

 

are you using any kind of windows tweaking software? like something to remove the little arrows on shortcuts? seems to be the culprit while looking around the net. keep in mind, tweakui, and some others don't play nice with windows 7. If you want to play around with a compatible tweak tool, try Ultimate Windows Tweaker

 

Thanks a lot Smoky. I downloaded and installed the program you recommended, clicked on the shortcut prefix item then shut the computer down. On startup again all was as it should be, thanks very much once more.

Plodr : I tried making new shortcuts after deleting the old ones but they turned out the same.
