Desktop/user oddness

    My partner logged on today to find a new desktop, as if a new user had been created. Can't log on to her old user profile but all other profiles on comp are OK. The old profile and data are still there but can't log on. New profile has name <user>.<comp name>. Cannot delete this new user profile: message says it is a system file and cannot be deleted (or renamed)...Help!
