    Hi , Please help
When trying to boot my Windows XP desktop I receive a read error. I have a spare disk that was created many years ago when PC was setup. The spare booted fine at the time, was removed and left alone. Now with the read errors, I removed the normal disk and plugged in the spare disk. It is configured as a single master.
When powering up, I get the splash screen for the boot, then the Desktop splash screen with a message that says Windows did not start successfully and gives the options for a Safe or a Normal start. Selecting Normal Mode or waiting for the 4 second timeout starts the Windows boot. The Windows splash screen appears with the progress bar but soon causes a new boot of the PC. Sits in this loop.
If I attempt a Safe Mode start, a bunch of files are listed and the PC reboots.
    Cheers,
    Ken

Im only new here but these couple of options spring to mind that may help.

Have you tried either, last known good configuration, system restore or can you boot from that disc and access recovery console?
If recovery console is accessible, you could try repair the boot.ini using the Bootcfg tool.

Most likely not hardware related, so a move to software section may get more specialized help.

    Goodluck
