This began just two weeks ago.

When I command the desktop to shutdown, the grey screen displays as normal during shutdown but that's all that happens. Sometimes the computer reboots and stays on.

At times it seems that it takes long to boot up Windows 7 from cold start.

I am using AVAST antivirus and I ran MalWare Bytes Anti Malware.

Can someone tell me what is going on with this machine?

    Thanks and Happy Memorial Day!

    UPDATE

I updated my Bios two days ago (and thanks for the link) however the problem still remains on shut down.

The grey screen with the words "shutting down" just seems to hang and I have to manually mash the power button.

    Any other suggestions?

Try looking in Event Viewer for any clues as to the shutdown problem. Look at Device Manager and under system devices see if there are any exclamation marks next to ACPI.

I looked at my event viewer and there are multiple entries however

    1) I don't have a clue as to what the entries tell me
    2) I don't know how to save or copy this report and upload to this forum.

    Thanks!
