    Not sure where this would have fit, so I posted it here, Admins feel free to move it to where you think it's best.

    Last night after being done with a gaming session my computer restarted suddenly. Right before it got to the Windows welcome screen it asked to do a scan into Disk C for consistency. At first I was like alright should be no problem so I let it run. Then I noticed a lot of Window files were being deleted. If I recall correctly it was Win32 files or system32 files. Anyways I woke up and this is what my Desktop looks like now.

    I can still run programs but I lost my task bar and all the items on my desktop, it doesn't even tell me the time. Also on the screen I cannot right click to form the properties or left click and make a box like I'm allowed to regularly. I have to use task manager *noted at the bottom left* to open up programs. Immediately I came to this site for help obviously something is wrong.

    PS On the picture I had to re frame it to make it smaller and adjust the colors to fit the limits of 97.7kb. Regardless that's how my desktop looks currently =\ I can't change the background to a standard color if I wanted to.

    Sounds and looks like explorer.exe got removed. To check this you can open Task Manager and under the Processes tab you should be able to see explorer.exe.

    If not, you can do a system restore back to before you ran the scan, which should resolve it. To restore:

    Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> System restore and use the options to go back to the latest restore point available BEFORE you ran the scan.

    You cannot close a thread down, only mods can. Maybe you would like to share how you resolved it so others who have similar problems can learn from your advice :)

    Haha to be honest I did a search of Desktop Disappearing and searched from there. I'll try to find it but it'll probably be hard =P.

    Every time my computer starts up it goes back to 800x600 resolution from the 1024x768 that I set it to =\ thats weird. Then I have to change the resolution again...great and my computer freezes at random times as well as if I were having a lag spike. Looks like I just came up with another problem..

    If we knew what exactly you did to "solve" the first problem, we might be able to understand and help you resolve the second problem.... :)

    lol =P.

    Well when my desktop wasn't there I referred to this post

    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=103431&highlight=desktop+disappearing&page=4

    From there I tried typing in explorer.exe into the task manager. It was missing so I tried the other one which was sfc /scannow . It started checking window files and said I had to inset a Windows XP CD so it could download it into the DLL cache or something along those lines. Did that and my desktop reappeared.
    Strangely my computer's been freezing and restarting, sometimes even when trying to boot up from another restart ><. Right now its stable but that could change in any second.

    Oh and the resolution changing back to 800x600 is still happening :banghead
    It's fairly annoying having to go into properties and changing it every time it restarts =\.
