Device driver problems i think

I have a dell XPS 2.8, 2GB ram, windows media center. About 1 week after I had it I came down to use it and had an error saying windows had shut down IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. Basically somekind of device driver problem. When I look at the device manager all hardware seems fine. I upgraded my nvidia 6800 to latest drivers and it has been fine for almost 2 weeks and now it has happened again. This time I had different messages besides the IRQL. PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONE-PAGE_AREA, also PFN_LIST_CORRUPT. rebooted a number of times with the various errors and now it has finally rebooted and is running. All seems to point to a device driver. Only drivers I have loaded are nvidia latest video driver (had problem before doing this) and I immediately hooked up my old inetllimouse and installed intellimouse 4.0 software when I got the computer (driver for mouse shows 8/01). Any ideas what to do or is there a program that can tell me which device driver is the problem? Thx

 

Usually that means that there is a memory error. Time to either return it to Dell and get a real computer, or troubleshoot to see if you have a bad card in it, or bad memory chip.

 

A little late to return it, only get 3 weeks - otherwise 15% restocking fee. How do u trouble shoot?

 

Start by narrowing down the problem. Seems to be this is due to a bad video card possibly. Reimaging the drive would be a last resort. Also, the drivers you installed may be incorrect for Dell.

 

I have noticed after this happens that in my start up menu there is a new line checked called "dump -k" and some other stuff after the -k. Should I leave this checked?
