Device manager not showing Wireless LAN

I just purchased an Acer M5800-U5802A desktop that is supposed to come with 80.11b/g wireless LAN. It is not showing in Device Manager. I have spent hours with acer support which seems to think it is a driver problem. No amount of installing drivers has done any good. Now they want me to wait 5-8 bus. days for a reformat disk (computer refuses to restore factory settings, the message I get is: "Hardware config. is not set to the factory default. Restore aborted.")

My questions are:
1. If it's not in the device manager at all, doesn't it sound more like a hardware problem, as in non-existent? How can I check?

2. Would I be able to purchase & use a wireless adapter while I'm waiting?

3. Should I insist on a new computer? I bought it from NewEgg.

(I cannot use a hard-wired networking solution due to my home office set-up.)

Problem solved. Just had to open the case, pull the wireless lan card, and reinsert.

BTW, learned that the card had an external screw-on antenna that was just sitting in a box that the cords came in. No mention of this in set-up instructions. If you have a new computer, you might want to look for same in case it was not installed in the factory.
