It worked great straight out of the box, didn't even need to run a wizard for my hardwired rig, I'm waiting on a wireless laptop. Narrowed the problem to under two hrs. of inactivity.

I then ran the wizards in both XP SP2 and the D-Link, no joy. Then I updated the firmware to 5.1 and updated the nForce4 mobo drivers, it still disconnects. The only way I can access the 'net is to reboot the rig

I only have one rig connected presently using the mobo's onboard NIC using a wire.

    ASUS A8N-E

    Any ideas? TIA :)

    Possible suggestions:
1 changing the default channel; my problem diminish after
    changing the default channel

    2. If you are using Xp; software of wireless card is not needed and i
    find that it is a possible cause of frequent disconnection ;
i have taken off power saving mode hence it
    helps

3 If you are using DSL line the DSL phone filter may be possible
cause as i suspect but not proven

4 Bluetooth and microwave can cause interference

5 Change the maximum default timeout before disconnection and
enable automatic reconnection (should be avilable at ur login)

    :) :)

Thanks but I don't have my wireless laptop yet, I have it hardwired to my main rig.

Hmm, I'll turn off power saving on my main rig.

I have cable and the ISP doesn't specify anything special needed. I don't have Bluetooth and I live in a rural area.

Hmm, sounds interesting though default is 59336 or close to that. Doesn't give a unit of measure, if it's seconds then it's near 100 hrs. I'll add a zero or three just in case.

Auto reconnect I'm not sure about in the router But XP is set auto.

    Thanks TimW!

The time is usually represented in TIC's and sometimes they are 1/1000 of a minute.

I am not familiar with the D-Link 524.

Many Routers have a setting to keep the Connection always alive or for long period of time. Check your Router's settings it might be set to low IP lease.

    :D

It's set at 7 days(default). I cleared the box for power management in XP. I hope that works as I'm out of ideas and places to check. Thanks all.:)

ZA was blocking outgoing UDP to DNS connections to the router. I'm used to ZA giving me alerts so I didn't think of it being the culprit, probably because it came from the svchost process  One good thing is that I don't get any log listings of attempted intrusions. :D Thanks everybody.

    augiedoggie,
i got a problem with my DI-524 (rev B) which i might be able to solve (most likely) if somebody with same router but with telnet access could help me.

your rev E1 provides telnet, doesn't it ?
if so, and you don't mind spending 2 minutes for a quick task, please contact me private (i'm not allowed yet to PM you...)
or send to wexim.mail [at] gmail dot com
    thanks

It's best if you do open a new thread, it's not that hard.;) This thread could be closed soon because of its age.
