While Hijackthis is a good scan for browser hijacks it will miss many other items of malware so its best to follow the below guide and attach the requested logs so that nothing is missed.


Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

• Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
• Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
• Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

• After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

• When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
  • 
    [*]runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
    [*]newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
  • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
  • Bitdefender - from step 6
  • Panda Scan - from step 6
  • HijackThis

NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

 

You MUST follow all the instructions Halo gave to you. You did not run the two online scanners from step 6 of the READ ME and you must attach the logs from them when complete. You also did not rename HijackThis.exe as specified in step 7 of the READ ME.

Run the online scanners and attach the logs also run any other steps you skipped. For example, you did not run or follow the below.

- you ignore step 3. You have AVG and Symantec installed.
- Ccleaner
- Spybot Search & Destroy
- Windows Defender or CounterSpy if you cannot run Windows Defender. You must attach the log from CounterSpy if you dod not run Windows Defender.)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\NOTEPAD.EXE - should not be running while getting a HijackThis log and neither should any browsers (like Internet Explorer).

Then rename HijackThis.exe to analyse.exe and attach a new HJT log. DO NOT run or attach a new HJT log until you have completed the other steps.


Questions:

1. Why are you storing all those JPG photos in the root folder of drive C? If you need them, move them someplace safer. If you don't need them, delete them.
2. What is the below for and do you need it:
   • O23 - Service: Boonty Games - BOONTY - C:\Programmi\File comuni\BOONTY Shared\Service\Boonty.exe
