Dials Before Asking For Password

First, I want to thank all who have helped me in the past. This is the best forum that I have found.

My problem, After doing a complete reinstall of Windows XP Home,SP2 and making my internet connection, everything is fine except that when I click to go on line, it starts dialing without asking for my password. I am wondering if there is someway that I can fix this without messing up my connection and if I mess with this connection, will it affect my ISP connection? I use Firefox browser and Thunderbird for mail.

Would appreciate any help that you can give me. Try to make it simple , I'm not much of a tech guy.
