Hello, the computer is an AMD 1.5 with 640 ram and XP. About a month ago it stated getting slower so i decided to selete some stuff from my hard drive. I go to delete my music and movies from my limewire shared folder, and there is 3 images with porn titles that it will not delete.... says cannot find specified file. In the folder view it shows the standard icon for an image, but it will not show a preview. When i right click them, it only shows: preview, edit, print, rotate, set al background, open with, and send to. It does not show cut, copy, create shortcut, delete, rename, or properties. I ignored it for a couple weeks, then firefox would pop up "document contains not data" at random times after i have been looking at a page for about 30 seconds.

I mentioned this problem to a tech friend, he suggested trying to delete them in safe mode, it didn't work. I tired running trend micro, it said it couldn't fix everything, i couldn't get the log to come up either. My friend then pointed me here. I did all the steps, i still can't delete the image files. The document contains no date problem seems to be gone. The BD scan said i still have 1 virus and 1 spyware if i remember correctly.

    ANY HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED! THANKS!

    Welcome to MGs!

Your Windows OS and IE versions are way out of date and represent a major security risk. You must get updated after we fix any current malware problems.
Why are you running without an antivirus and without a firewall applications installed? This is very dangerous. Between this and the above, you are a sitting duck for malware problems.
Look in Add/Remove programs and uninstall Savenow if found.

Do you have any idea what program the below is for:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\Tools\Restart.exe

You should empty your C:\Documents and Settings\Dustman.PIMPIN\.housecall\Quarantine folder?

    Why did you uninstall Housecall?
Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\azajr.dll/sp.html#28129
    O2 - BHO: metaspinner GmbH - {7C7A8947-5935-4430-AC0E-E7D04697414E} - C:\PROGRA~1\BUYERT~1\IEBUTT~1.DLL (file missing)
    O21 - SSODL: SysTray - {7ed639af-8a72-4ad5-826f-46aa30079298} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\rkvxsch.dll (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\azajr.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\rkvxsch.dll
    C:\Program Files\SWPR <--- the whole folder
    C:\Program Files\BUYERT~1 <--- the whole folder

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST).

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1) If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2) Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3) If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log. And tell us how things are working.

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

    Thanks for the reply!

I was trying to avoid SP2 because of all the software problems i have noticed with it. I did go ahead and get it though. I got all the windows updates fine, but i tried to get on microsoft update to see about updates for IE, it would not let me get them, it said product key blocked. I didn't have firewall or antivirus because i thought i was pretty safe with spybot, spyware blaster and firefox. Also i didn't want to pay for it LOL. I'll install a freeware one from the read me, which ones do you suggest?

    I don't know what this program is:C:\WINDOWS\system32\Tools\Restart.exe
When i looked at it, the sub title said "restart conuter" ... yes that is how it is spelled on my computer. The icon was a red square with chineese looking symbols in it. There are also several of the same icon, named: all, change, check path, counter, Delfolders, direct setup, regclean, regexe, restart, runregexe. The other funny thing is that when i went to change the folder view, when the pointer when on the menu bar, all the icons would dissaper for several secons then come back. It did this several times, only when the pointer was in the menus at the top of the window.

I never had the full housecall installed. The only thing that was installed is whatever file that was needed to use their online scan.

    Emptied the quarantine folder

Ran HJT again... i had already fixed the files you told me, i had already entered my results in one of the analyzers on the read me page

I couldn't find the .dll files..... they must've gotten deleted with HJT (yes hidden files were showed)
    Deleted the other two folders
    Deleted prefetch and ran CCleaner
    Reseted IE settings

The files i could not delete would not let me bring up the properties menu. I was able to get to the properties on the folder that the files were in, unchecked read only and applied to the files in the folder, then i was able to delete the whole folder okay.

Computer seems fine so far, please review my HJT log and suggest a good freeware anti-virus and firewall. Thanks!

You must get updated after we fix any current malware problems.

I really meant that you should wait until we have cleaned up malware problems. Installing SP2 while malware is present can cause more problems that the malware.

However your log appears to be clean so I guess you were lucky we got it all on the first try.

    Delete the whole C:\WINDOWS\system32\Tools folder

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to go back to step 1 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points. Then reboot and enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

After that, you should work thru the below link ( it will answer your questions about antivirus and firewalls):
