I've been sitting at this computer for 11 1/2 hours trying to remove the smitfraud-c trojan from one of my company's laptops. Needless to say I'm extremely :tired and just a tad bit :mad.

I have followed your malware removal instructions exactly. I was hoping someone would take a look at the log files to be sure I have removed the trojan and other malware (sorry can't remember what they were) found during the scans.

I ran spybot just before coming to post this topic; it found zero threats.

Thank you in advance for all your help.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Your log from MBAM indicates that you did not fix the problems it found. Did you save the log before fixing. Make sure you have fixed these problem.

Also you forgot to attach the log from SUPERAntiSpyware. You should attach this now.

What is the below and why does it need to run at startup?
    "xvid start"="c:\windows\xvid.bat" [2007-07-18 81]

Your logs are basically clean but you do need to do the below.

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.
Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below log:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!
