    Panda

Okay, I went to Panda Software and cannot get the scan to work. No problem loading files onto my computer, but then when it asks what I want to scan and I click on the *Hard Disk*, it comes up with an error on the page and a pop up. So, I close the pop-up, and it either doesn't do anything (with *error on page* on bottom bar in left corner), or it says it's scanning, but does nothing. I left it in the *scanning* mode for over half an hour, and nothing, so obviously, I won't be Panda scanning! :D

It also wanted to continually load an active X called... *Controler*

Will be submitting my logs eventually.

    Thanks, everyone!

Oh, and let me know if it's just me that's having an issue with Panda, kay? I did try multiple times; just wondering if I didn't miss a *special click button* somewhere. :(

    Blessings!

I ran all the scans in the READ ME FIRST thread, did everything it said, almost to a *T*, then ran the BD about 2 this afternoon. The results showed clean. I then headed to Panda to do the scan as directed, and was unable to get the scan to work. When I clicked to have the scan done, Panda loaded files onto my computer, but refused to scan (see previous post). Well, I decided to run BD again, and am glad I did. Guess I should start over with all the scans since Panda seems to have uploaded Generic Malware onto my computer in the System32 files! Considering the date and time these files were introduced (between 2 and 3 p.m., today), I conclude that is what happened. rolleyes

If I am wrong, please let me know.

I have attached the copy of the report from BD in .doc form, as well as runkeys and newfiles.

Thank you all so much for the information and instructions! I appreciate instructions that are *lay person* english. I have geeks for brothers and they are so... frustrating (and easily frustrated); don't think they know the meaning of the word Patience. Know that I have come here FIRST ! :D

    Blessings!

    Re: Panda

Please remain in one thread for your current malware problems. I will be merging this with your other thread.

Many people have problems with online scan for a variety of reasons.
    • Sometimes it is due to not updating Sun Java as requested
    • Sometimes it is a simple configuration issue
    • Sometimes it is due to not using Internet Explorer (which browser were you using)
    • Sometimes your protection software (antivirus or firewall) could be getting in the way.
    • Sometimes it is due to existing malware
    • Sometime it just will not work for unknown reasons but it is probably due to another software conflict
Just complete ALL the other steps and attach your logs. There should be 6 total logs ( 5 without Panda). Be sure to explain what problems you are still having. The list of logs requeste in the READ ME are these:
    • CounterSpy - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
    • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy. - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
    • Bitdefender - from step 6
    • Panda Scan - from step 6
    • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
    • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
    • HijackThis

You need to do step 2 of the READ ME properly. You appear to have skipped it.

Note: Panda did not load any generic malware on your PC. BitDefender is wrong. This is know as a false positive. BD is detecting something in Panda's definitions.

Well, shuckie darns, that was rude of Bit defender!

Thanks for clarifying that for me.

And I DID enable file viewing. IN fact, I have had it that way for years. I prefer to NOT have hidden files, and if they are hidden, there's something else going on. I did follow the directions, and double checked myself to make sure of it. :O)

I did right click on start, Explore, My computer, tools, folder options, show hidden files. WHOOPS.. I did miss the hiding os files. Sorry...

Will start over tomorrow or the next day, now that I have everything downloaded and running. *sigh* Sorry about that. I have all the reports, problem is, now that the OS files are not hidden, perhaps something is hiding in there again.

BTW, my issues are/were constant information being received/sent over the internet even when not online (have DSL though), as well as a few popups, jerky page loading, mouse movement, and so on. I also had some hijackings of the server that I deleted from the first HiJack This I ran over a week ago.
That seems to be cleared up, but they did get ONE more in and I deleted it ... again. I also have an issue with a program that shows a small box in my taskbar at the bottom of the screen, every now and again, but never long enough to check out. At start up, a screen pops up on my computer and flashes really quick and goes away, but nothing shows up in my *running* taskbar to the bottom right. We'll see if I have any more issues with that after I re-run everything tomorrow with the correction to step 2. Thank you for pointing that out.

As for Panda, I don't know what to do about that. I'll try again tomorrow. That's another thing that's been happening. I have pop up blocker, but still receive pop ups (nothing pornish or of the like), and IE locks up at times. It's so frustrating one could throw the proverbial computer out the proverbial window! Although, I will say after doing the steps today (except the one in step 2), the computer is running better, smoother, quicker and the little computers in the bottom right aren't lighting up as often.

Thank you for your help; you are VERY appreciated, even if we don't let you know.

    Blessings...

If it does not work, don't worry about it. Just complete ALL the other steps and attach all the logs (5 without Panda).

Sometimes popups can be related to sites you are on and other time it could be due to a simple thing like Windows Messenger still be allowed to run. Do the below which will help use to rule out Windows Messenger related popups.

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger.
