That's pretty interesting trivia, NJ. I always wondered about the the name of that computer and why it had the same name as the the Star Trek system. I just thought it was coincidence or that there really was a star or some space thing with that name.
So it is actually Gene Roddenberry's fault that we must live with an imperfect OS. LOL

Don't know about the changing the world part, however, I miss my Dad making me sit and watch it with him. :( Of course in return I made him watch Green Acres with me! :D It's amazing of all the little things you can miss about someone.

Star Trek certainly had a profound influence on Science Fiction, and since a lot of science fact starts with ideas from Sci-Fi, then it also had some influence on human thought, and consequent actions in general. Whether it is a profound influence or not is a matter of opinion, and therefore debatable.

It was one of the things I remember about my childhood, and maybe had some influence, along with the general 'Space Race' thing of the sixties, in me choosing science as a career. But chances are, I would have anyway. I still like the original series to this day.

I would say it was a pop culture phenom. But not when it was on. It was cancelled and resurrected... twice i think? But it definately made such an impact because of WHEN it came out, when we were starting to venture into space and to the moon and it made people imagine "what if" back when people actually HAD imaginations.

First inter racial kiss on TV I believe or one of them which was obviously a huge thing for a prime time series to do back then so just for that yes it did.

What I find funny is the vast majority of TV shows and movies seem to have gone back in time I can't remember the last time I saw a black and white couple,I think the last time on was Star Trek:D

Now I love Star Trek, but how did it 'change the world'? Lots of folks don't speak english, and live without electricity. Did it change them?

    Just my non-offensive reply.

    :D

Yes, Star Trek has changed the world and me. An LCARS OS would further revolutionize the computer industry. (see my posts under software).
Star Trek has and will "Live long and prosper".

I used to think so until I started watching Boston Legal...him and James Spader are outstanding in that show...imo.

I don't know if it necessarily immediately responsible for some of our advancements in society, but like wenchie said...in the least it has/had to trigger some otherwise lazy imaginations!!

I wouldn't say it changed the world, but it did effect TV and movies and the entertainment industry. I think along with Star Wars, ST had a lot to do with the scifi genre becoming popular in the US and the world for that matter.

Oh i wonder why this thread was not locked for being so old but seeing as its not how about more quotes?
Or how about the cell phone?

    Cyborg implants? Non-Invasive surgery's?
    How about Apples Quicktime?

There was much more talked about in the show but i ran out of quotes and i gotta run out of town for alittle while.
