please help me! I did all the steps you suggested. My computer seemed to work a little better until I did the Combofix step. My computer is now so slow it has taken me over an hour just to get to post this message to you. Please tell me what to do. I cannot get the saslog.txt and the malwarebytes log attached to this post because my computer won't let me attach them for some reason.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You need to attach the C:\MGlogs.zip file that was requested from running MGtools. We did not ask you to post a HijackThis log.

Also please explain what operations are slow! For example answer the below:
    • Is boot up slow?
    • Is shutdown slow?
    • Is browsing/surfing slow?
    • Is downloading slow?
    • Is running any application?
    • Is it also slow in safe boot mode?
    • Also are any process showing in Task Manager to be using a lot of CPU time?
    • Anything else slow?

sorry about the hijackthislog. I was not really sure what you meant for me to post. My boot up was very slow, but seems to be a little better. My shutdown also was taking forever, but seems to be better now. Browsing and running applications are very slow...not slow in safe boot though. Downloads are not slow. I don't know about cpu time. Please let me know if you need to know anything else. I'll do whatever you say...you are the expert. Thanks!

I'm not sure we are going to be able to speed anything up. Since you do not even have any protection software installed yet (which you must install) and it will slow things down even more out of necessity. What are you comparing your startup and shutdown times to that make you think they are out of the normal?

Did you install this?: Naomi internet filtering program
I do see a service for it running an this has not been support since June 2006.

Do you still use AOL? I see a service for it trying to load but it does not appear to be installed.

I'm going to assume that you don't need or want Naomi or AOL and remove them. If this is not true, then do not do the below steps. Just tell me you need them.

What is the below that you recently installed?
    Code:
    "C:\Program Files\"
    P2P_EN~1 Aug 6 2008 "P2P_Energy"

Please follow the below instructions and let see if things improve some more.

Uninstall Viewpoint Media Player as requested in step 1 of the READ & RUN ME.
Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.****************.com/
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - ~CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - ~EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: WormRadar.com IESiteBlocker.NavFilter - {3CA2F312-6F6E-4B53-A66E-4E65E497C8C0} - C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgssie.dll (file missing)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WMPNSCFG] C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\WMPNSCFG.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

I don't know what this is. It came up when I downloaded Firefox Browser. I did everything that you said. My computer seems to be doing much better. I don't know what happened to it. Could something called "FBrowing Advisor" have caused it? I didn't know what that was or where it came from, I just found it on my programs list. Anyway, thank you for replying. Please let me know if there's anything else I need to do. You are right too about Naomi and AOL...I did not want them...thought I had uninstalled them. Again, thanks! ps...I have two icons on my desktop that say "desktop.ini" what are these??

It is not part of FireFox.

    Your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. You can uninstall SUPERAntiSpyware now.
    2. We recommed you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as a scanner. It uses no resources except a little disk space until you run a scan.
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    9. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

hello again. I don't know if this is where I should post this. Everything seems to be working faster since I did the steps before, but I'm still having a problem. When I try to open a file, (especially one from my desktop), my computer freezes. Do you have any suggestions on what the problem may be???

I suggest that you post in the Software Forum. You should also check your Event Viewer logs ( see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427 ) to see if there are any application errors of crashes occuring.
