Well I checked the site and norton utlities and system works seem to be the same. I just would like to know the difference and which is better at what it does if they do the same thing. Or maybe there's another tool altogether that's better? Please help a confused member here ^_^. Thanks in Advance.

I couldn't give you an answer on that as I haven't used it since 1999.. The only part that I have used is Norton Antivirus.. and I didn't care for it much.

Norton antivirus is good enough. I stopped using others like norton systemworks or firewall cuz they slow down window. For firewall, I just use hardware firewall router and for defrag, clean up, check for errors, I do it manuelly myself in window. I had more problems with Norton systemworks than without. I still use norton antivirus.

This is sort of off-topic but are routers hard to configure? Like if you want to play some online games or something is it easy to configure it?

My experience with routers has been superb. I installed a Linksys router. It gave me step-by-step instructions on installing the router (from plug the router's powercord into the wall from installing the software on the CD). Anybody who can read could install the router I used.

I tried System works and Norton Utilities. I don't like them because I can't actually tell if they make a difference. The programs wouldn't tell me exactly what they were doing. When disk doctor scans your hard drive what is it really doing? Is it doing the same thing Scandisk does or something else? I'd rather use utilities found on the net that at leas I know exactly what they're doing and in return know what I'm doing to a computer.

I do like the Norton Speed disk (NT utilities). I like be able to only defragment the free space for 30 passes. That's something I haven't found in other Defragmentors. That features doesn't justify the cost though.

I have norton systemworks 2002 and I think it's great. I use the "Find Windows problems" every day it's great.

Now as for Speed Disk one time I used Speed Disk a long time ago, and the next thing I know i'm getting the BSOD and my drive was corrupt and I had to reformat. I have never used speed disk again.

Just my own experiences with Norton's here.

Utilities can be installed separately, and will only mess up my system when I tell it to.

System Works installs all of the stuff,, takes over my computer, and screws it up when it wants to.

Actually, I used to love it, upgraded it whenever it had a new version. Found out it was really messing up my stuff,, deleting files that were needed, deleting registry entries that were needed,, Speed disk overwrote hidden files, etc. I won't use it anymore.

Alot of people swear by it.

I have System Works 2003 on my Pc and It's awsome. I use the clean sweep, win doctor, anti virus, disk defragger and some other ones. I would recommend 256+ ram to run it though, its using 13k memory on my system and thats with everything running. Auto update, AV, tray and some other thing. I have allways been a Symantec fan since they saved my but a couple time Virus wise. I have used Pc Cillen, McAffe, and Panda, I wont use anything besides Norton from now on.

As far as Routers goes, get one without built in NAT Firewall. Some brands have NAT but it can be disabled, some cant. Like my Netgear :( . NAT can effect online gaming dramatically, I know because I to am a online gaming fanatic. Other than my NAT, I love my Netgear.
