OK folks, yet another phase in my life in that I'm getting heavily into music again, (you know how it goes, the 7 year itch is not just relational).

Anyhoo, I trust the judgement of most peeps in here, (on certain things:) ), so here goes.

I'm running an Audigy1 drivered as an Audigy2, it's ok, but.....

HiFI/Home Cinema etc is at other end of flat, sounds so good that listening on my comp is becoming painful;)

Speakers on comp are Creative 5300 5.1

Suggestions please for new sound card and speakers, budget relatively unimportant. Oscar Wilde said the only way to deal with temptation is to yield to it:)

I like a bit of gaming and a DVD or two but MUSIC is the thing.

    Ideas anyone? ;) :D

To clarify a little, I posted here instead of hardware because this is about how it actually sounds.

There are a lot of people in this place who have good musical judgement, (imo;) ), so what I need is input from those who mess with it;) .

Never been a priority, (that's always been speed, video and network before), but is becoming one; yeah I don't want your geek, I want your Geek ;)

I run Klipsch ProMedia speakers with M-Audio Revoltion sound card. My Geek computer god friend got me into Klipsch. My musician friends got me into M-Audio.

make that M-Audio "Revolution" (typo - mind lapse - error - begin self destruct sequence) though the Revoltion is popular in certain dictator led countries.

Glad to give you a starting point.

I'm running a really basic 6channel 5.1 card, and was told about using a home theatre system for speakers, as you get a built in amp for more power than your average 5.1 speakers. So I looked into these and discovered AV speakers, still looking for them and as I have a low budget, being a student, I'm looking at these - http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/content/products/details/html/WHA-D8CB.htm

Can then get an AV to minijack adaptor from www.studiospares.com (can also get nice speakers there I think) for only about £5.

    Hope that's of some use!

M-Audio is excellent, for straight sound. The actual Audigy 2s are also good (you need the better hardware, not just the drivers) and still support the latest EAX for games, which the M-Audio doesn't.

I'm using old Klipsch 4.1s, and like them a lot. Any of the Klipsch's are good. Logitech's high end speakers are also good, and cheaper than the equivelant Klipsch.

Klipsch is looking good for speakers:D

Sound Card anyone, criteria is outstanding music presentation.

    Roland, Creative, M-Audio?

    Sound experience is all:)

I upgraded mine last year, and the sound card is a Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS 6.1 along with the Logitech Z640 5.1 140 watt speakers……it’s more then enough, I live in an upstairs three bedroom apartment and I’ve only turned it to 70% volume once…..if nobody’s home, I listen to it at 45%….with the sub-woofer, and the other speaker, it’s more then enough…..and I have had a set of Bose 901 speakers, in an early part of my life……wobbles

.......and when there are too many people around, I have a nice set of Koss headphones, gets as loud as I would ever want.....

It was you, Goldie who pointed me to Radio Paradise, (dot com etc), wasn't it? You swine you, as if I needed more time bandits:)

Thanks, outstanding station, hence the need to improve my aural experience thread:cool:

if you really want to (over)do it, you could run it through an amp, then through a home hifi set ;)
only disadvantages: - more wires, higher cost
if you don't want to do that, anything Klipsch produces is pretty good, the top of the line Logitechs also, but DON'T put your sub on more than 75% for a prolonged period of time, they'll catch fire (my mate's did :p), then again, why you'd even wánt to have it at over 35% is beyond me, the sub is amazing.
the newest Creatives are also pretty good.

Would do, except comp is at the other end of the flat, (apartment), to the real aural goodies.

I could run fibre, coax etc, ( I mean I really could, it's one of the things I do to eat), through but even with brilliantly done containment it would still be more nerd than geek:)
