    A) I got malware and tried to remove it, with some success.
    B) I went through the requested scans for this help forum and created this thread.

    So first (A)... what I did before I started following the instructions in the faq for this forum:

    About a week (or maybe a bit longer) ago the spybot tea timer alerted me to some suspect registry actions and I noticed some google search redirects. I have a hosts file that prevents known malware sites from being accessed so the redirects didn't load anything.
    I used sbs&d, malwarebytes, spyware doctor, hijackthis and some online scanners (panda and kaspersky) to try to find and cleanup my system. I managed to remove alot of infected files, running some scans with no internet connected to try to stop more files being downloaded.
    After all this I was still getting less frequent search redirects in firefox (I dont touch IE).
    Malwarebytes was detecting a dll in the system32 folder that was being loaded as a browser helper object, and couldn't delete this file even on startup (it also couldn't remove the registry items). I deleted the file via the windows recovery console but malwarebytes was still showing the file (zpwasqk.dll) even though i cannot see a file with that name in that folder (attrib z*.* doesn't show it for example). It may be that the file is showing up simply because it is being referenced in the registry. I could not delete or rename or change the permissions on the registry entries related to this file even with an account in the administrators group. I tried using subinacl.exe to change registry permissions for browser helper objects but encountered the same permission problems as when using regedt32.

    Now (B)
    I have followed the instructions in the read & run me first.
    (1)
    -no malware found in ad/remove control panel
    -java updated in (A) when i was trouble shooting myself.
    -msconfig set to normal startup.
    -quarantine folders emptied
    -ccleaner run
    (2) Hidden system, extensions already visible
    (3) Scans run, logs attached, system restore toggled.

    When scanning with Malwarebytes again during the Windows XP Cleaning Procedure it found the same results I have been trying to remove, so the info is all in the logs.

    Thankyou for reading this.
    I would appreciate any advice for removing these reg entries and in removing any malware that is still hiding in my system.

    Logs attached. (Edit... oops ok now they are!)

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    NOTE: HJT may popup an error about the AppInit_DLLs line. Ignore it and click OK to continue.

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
    Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
    to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

    Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you del
    ete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Temp

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

    1) I ran analyse.exe (hjt), did a system scan, selected the offending items, closed the browser, clicked fix and then closed hjt.

    2) Copied the text and saved it as fixME.reg, double clicked, it was merged successfully.

    3) Ran the avenger script which included a reboot. Log attached. It failed to delete the file zpwasqk.dll but I'm pretty sure that is because the file is gone (deleted from recovery console).

    4) Ran getlogs.bat, logs attached.

    The problem is you are still running TeaTimer which you were instructed to disable in the R&R instructions.

    * Run Spybot and click Mode
    * Select Advanced Mode.
    * Then click Tools and select Resident.
    * Now in the right window pane, uncheck TeaTimer.
    * Also while this is open, in the left column now select IE Tweaks
    * and then in the right pane make sure all the Miscellaneous locks are unchecked.
    * Now quit Spybot!

    Now let's use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    o If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\zpwasqk.dll
    C:\Documents and Settings\Current user\Local Settings\Application Data\acjulkpl

    Folder::
    C:\Documents and Settings\Current user\Local Settings\Application Data\acjulkpl

    Registry::
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\syvtqany]

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{8DF9E0F9-DA17-4569-8961-43A1B6753C85}]

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the prvevious file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Combo.
