Ok, I was thinking of upgrading to 17" or 19" TFT from my 15" TFT. But I found what I think are two great deals. I can't decide which to choose. I have no idea about the technical advantages/disadvantages of buying either. So I was kind of hoping you guys could help me out here.

    Here are the two monitors:

    Acer AL1916ws 19" Widescreen TFT, 1440 x 900, 16.7M, 150°, 300 cd/m2, 500:1, 8ms, Analogue inputs, Silver/Black, Internal power supply, 3 yr warranty

    Monitor 2

    Yusmart 17" TFT Monitor - 178QP 12ms with Built-in Speakers Black/Silver

The second company I haven't heard of. But saying that, it comes at such a cheap price and almost 100% good reviews :S

    AHHHHHHHH I DONT KNOW

Personally I would go with the ACER for the following reasons ( bare in mind I have not done much research on either LCD and this is my feelings on the specs given )

    1. ACER has a good name
    2. 19" widescreen
    3. 8ms refresh rate is better than the 12ms one, especially if you game!
    4. 3yrs warrenty
    5. Good high top end resolution, depending on wether your GFX card can handle it.. but lower resolutions will be good around the 1280x600 mark.

but advice is do some more research into both and dont just take Amazons customers reviews as final, look for more reviews and proper reviews by online magazines to give you the best possible all around opinion.

Let us know what you come up with Lithium, as I'm also in the market for one for my daughter's PC I am putting together.

Interesting! The same model in the US comes up with a 12ms refresh rate...same with the 17" version.

    Worth indepth research before buying.

What sort of dead pixel warranty do they have?

ViewSonic have the awesome VX924. However, like most companies, it has a crappy dead pixel warranty.

Samsung is one of the few that has a zero dead pixel warranty, but it varies from country to country.

As far as refresh rates, manufacturers use different methods in a bid to outdo each other.

There are two ways to speed up a panel. One is to reduce the viscosity of the liquid crystal (which is done during the panels manufacture), and the second is to apply a higher voltage.

The latter is known as "overdrive" and is how ViewSonic, SamSung and BenQ get a faster response time from an 8 ms panel.

In theory, even a 16ms panel should have no ghosting, however that's not always the case, so response times should only be used as a guide.
