"Direct draw Init failed".........Help!!!!!

i have to format and reload windows 98..........Now when i try to run games
.........it says "Direct draw Init failed" , "Couldnt load pics/colormap.pcx" for many games...........and few that managed to run.......all 3D models in the game comes without texture.......i mean......in red,green,or only the shape no texture on it!!!!!!!!!

Is it a monitor problem or what ?????????
plz help!

 

but i have directx 9........and latest graphics driver........anyway.......why there is no texture on 3D models.??????????
i saw that sometimes in other machines also.........
