Direct X 8.1 / Win98Se / HP Vectra Vl400 DT

looking for a solution as to why direct X seemingly hangs, approximately half way through the start page when i type dxdiag in the run menu.

Direct X doesnt show its version, and the whole start page is blank with an x at the details for cpu ram etc...

I tried reinstalling Direct X 8.1 no good, same thing.

There was an initial popup saying last time direct X was run there was a problem with the sound drivers, but i have checked these and also reinstalled. This unit is quite slow to respond its a P3 / 733 with 128mb of ram and win 98 should be flying but it crawls, quite laggy, possibly related to the direct X files.

The only thing else is that it was a cloned / imaged unit from another model of the same type...

Thoughts and solutions would be greatly appreciated.:wave

 

O.k so rather sheepishly the unit was just in one long lag, by the time I turned around from the first post the unit was showing the dxdiag main page with appropriate text.

Although I still have problem with these units being so slow to respond, device manager fine, direct X menu no problems in any of the catergories, video and audio test fine in dxdiag, seemingly no bad drivers, but these units still crawl, oh the ram is the same speed pc100 (2x64's) but not same type and both double sided...I have also been working on some dell optiplex G1's (PII 350MHZ) with the same amount of ram, software and version of direct X and these are far quicker than the P3's as far as opening applications etc and loading into 98.

Is anyone aware of slow response / issues with this model? and what might be cause of the issue?
