I'm having a problem with a couple of games. I have a Athlon XP 2.08Ghz with a Gig of Ram running Windows XP SP1 and Direct X 9.0b.

The games in question install fine but when I try to run them it tells me to insert the CR in the CD-ROM drive even though the CD is there.

I think it may be a Direct-X problem as both use Direct-X. When I run dxdiag, the resulting dxdiag.txt file does not list any CD-ROM drives. Here is an excerpt....

    ------------------------
    Disk & DVD/CD-ROM Drives
    ------------------------
    Drive: C:
    Free Space: 86.5 GB
    Total Space: 108.3 GB
    File System: NTFS
    Model: n/a

    Drive: G:
    Free Space: 0.4 GB
    Total Space: 2.0 GB
    File System: FAT32
    Model: n/a

    I have a DVD-ROM as drive D: and a CD-R drive as drive F:

    Thanks for your help!

You dont have service pack 2. You dont have DirectX 9.0c. Im guessing you have a lot of drivers also out of date and are not keeping up.

1 Get the latest motherboard drivers, should fix it.
2 Complete spyware and virus scan (required before step 3)
3 Update to service pack 2 and turn automatic updates on.
