direct X!

    For about the last month know it seems that more and more web sites are wanting me to download direct x. Just what is the need? How safe is it?
    Can it hurt you? confused confused

    DirectX is needed as its the graphical API of Windows, but not really noticed any websites wanting you to download this which makes be think/believe you may mean ActiveX?

    ActiveX is not the safest thing as many malwares are now hidden in ActiveX components, the safest ones are only ones signed by recognised companies like MS, Adobe etc any ones that dont list who they are from just click cancel/

    You can download the latest version of Direct X from Microsoft. I haven't heard anything about it not being safe, it is a graphics tool that a lot of programs use, primarily games, movies etc. Not sure, but I can imagine some flash things require it? I've never been hurt by it! :)
