DirectCD v. InCD

Okay heres another tough one. I think I know the answer, but I want to see if anybody comes up with an easier way...

This is in the same computer as my last thread.. Win ME 128 Mb ram.

After reinstalling ME, we ran into some problems with the cd burner. The use CDRW as a drive functionality has disappeared. Evidentally the reinstall software provided by dell (from here on know as 'smell') is not the same as the software preinstalled by smell!

It seems the pc came with adaptec directcd 4, but the reinstall cd has only version 3.

We like to edit the pictures on the cdrw and resave it back onto the cd. This could be done before re-imaging the machine, but now it only works sometimes.

My solution was this: Purchase and install a new cdrw that comes with modern software and new drivers. Sounds good right? And we are into the new drive for < $30.

Heres the problem. The drive works perfectly with new blank cd's. But the old cd's we've already made... Can't be read by it! It came with Nero InCd which is evidentally not compatible with directCd.

Only solution I can think of (unless there is an easier one you know):
1 - replace the new cdrw with the old one.
2 - replace all the nero software with the origional adaptec provided by smell
3 - copy all data cd's onto the harddrive
4 - replace the old cdrw with the new one.
5 - replace all the adaptec software with the nero
6 - burn the data cd's using the nero inCd solution.

Thats about all I got. BTW - thanks for all the great help on my thread about image editing!

Okay - my mistake. The InCd reads the DirectCD, it just can't change it. So basically: I need to copy all the DirectCd files onto the pc. Then format some new blank cdrw's for incd, and re-burn all the data back to inCd and we can call it a done deal.
