DirectX 9.0c August '08 Update

What's the deal with this update? Is it security patches? Performance enhancers? DX10 compatibility stuff? And more importantly, do we really need it?

Thought one of the Geeks might've posted by now. But go ahead and update DirectX for the reasons you mentioned. Once you run the update you'll get to save it where you want before you doubleclick the setup.exe file. Doing this opens the final installation wizard to complete the August update. You can then 'select all' of the cabinet files in the Explorer window you first extracted them to, and delete them all. No longer needed. Done. Not necessary to run every 2-3 month update that comes along, your call.
