dirty drives

For some reason, disk drives, both floppy (even old 5 1/4" ones) and CD-ROM type drives keep getting dust in them here. This causes scratches on the floppies, or in extreme cases prevents the disk from being read. CD-ROMs just aren't read.

I know the floppy drives get dust in them from fans, and I clean them with compressed air when I clean the computer. (But the drives are often dustier. I wonder if we have magnetic dust or something. lol)

The CD-ROM type drives don't appear very dusty at all, they just stop reading disks. We tried drive cleaning disks for them, but they didn't work right because the drive couldn't read them correctly. Compressed air doesn't work because I can't really get in there. They go out as rapidly as the floppies do. Would this be caused by something else? Do lazer disc drives have some expiration date on them so they are all going out at near the same time or something?rolleyes:confused
