I recently ran BeLarc Advisor on my XP Home SP2 machine and after comparing it with a previous (7 month old) audit, I found an unknown Local System Account had been added. How can I tell if it was added by some software I may have installed or by malware? Also, how can it be disabled since system accounts are not available in "control panel, user accounts"?

Right click on my computer select manage, then user accounts there should show all of them.

"Computer Management" is not showing User Accounts as it does in XP Pro

Not sure if this will work in XP HOME or not. Try the following:

Click START, then RUN, then type in: lusrmgr.msc (press enter)

If it works, this should bring in the local users on your machine.

What new username was created, btw?

Thanks for the feedback, but the snapin "lusrmgr.msc" does not work with XP Home. The error message refers you back to "Control Panel / User Accounts". "Control UserPasswords2" works, but only shows local user accounts and two built in accounts - Guest and Administrator. It doesn't show the local system accounts - HelpAssistant, Support_388945a0 and the one I'm concerned about "lxbm_CPXP". I just had a thought... I wonder if this has anything to do with a Lexmark printer I installed awhile ago. Is that possible???
