Disable 'tap-to-click' as default Windows 7 action?

I have a Toshiba laptop with a trackpad, the Windows 7 side of which I use merely for gaming (mostly Skyrim at the moment). The vendor-specific drivers for the track pad were sticky and choppy, particularly when you attempt to press a keyboard button at the same time as using the pad; it will stutter and skip in-game to beat hell. No amount of setting changes improved the performance, so I erased the drivers.

Let me make special note here: The (latest) vendor specific drivers have been eliminated because they suck. I am now using fallback Windows 7 (Home Premium x64, if it matters) mouse/trackpad drivers.

...which are infinitely smoother in-game, and allow me to move around while holding down a keyboard button with great ease and precision. However, it also leaves me with a problem: Windows 7 default trackpad drivers use 'tap-to-click' , and there's no normally accessible way to disable this feature. In-game, this translates to drawing/using your weapons at very frequent, inappropriate moments. However, there is no normally user-accessible setting for 'tap-to-click' with Windows 7 drivers. I'm serious; go look if you don't believe me.

So, at the moment, I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't. With the vendor trackpad drivers I'm forced to lurch and reel like a drunken sailor. With the Windows drivers, I inadvertently draw my weapons about every five seconds and assault whomever happens to be in front of me. But, in the latter case, the problem behavior is very specific, and aught to be able to be addressed directly. So, my question is:

Is there a way to disable Windows 7 fallpack trackpad drivers 'tap-to-click"?

I'm really a Linux user by nature, so I can handle anything: registry editing, hex editing, whatever. But, just remember: the vendor-specific drivers are garbage. They are not an option.

    Thank you.

If you go to Windows Update in the control panel and inspect the optional updates, I'll bet you'll find an Appoint, Alps, or Synaptics driver listed there. Try installing it and see if its better than Toshiba's.
Your issue is that the tap-to-click is built into the hardware and generic mouse drivers don't even know its an option so, no, there won't be any registry hack that can fix it.

    Maybe use an external mouse?

I though of that, but I ended up mapping out mouse clicks entirely =D I'll get used to the new controls eventually. But thank you for the suggestion =)
