I recently bought a P4S800-MX Micro ATX motherboard. To begin with I Intially installed my dads 3 gig P4 Prescott processor to my new board to see how well it performed. However, when I eventially came around to installing my own 2 gig P4 i discovered that the motherboard rejected it and the computer refused to boot. When i returned the 3 gig it performed faultlessly. The only thing i can think of is that the boards C.P.R (CPU Parameter Recall used for overclocking) function has memorised the higher F.S.B on the 3 gig (800) and now is rejecting my own older 2 gig (533) P4. I have tried removing the
C-MOS but this does not reset the board parameters. This is frustrating as i know my 2 gig does work on other boards and is supported by the P4S-800 (identical except for larger ATX form Factor). any ideas how i might get around this, disabling this feature perhaps. Unsurprisingly Asus technocal is unable to help.

Whenever you install a new cpu you have to reset the cmos!! Instead of just using the cmos reset jumper...tyr taking the cmos battery out with the power chord unplugged for a good minute or two and then put it back and reboot!! That is the only way to make 100% sure the cmos is reset!! Lots of times the jumper won't reset it!! With the battery still in there and the power cord still pugged in...it can still retain it's memory, so like I said...taking the battery out with the power unplugged is the surefire way to make sure it is reset!!
