Bought used computer for my daughter and
reinstalled windows xp. After my daughter tried to add additional software, the icons disappear after boot up and can only run task manager. Tried following malware read me first and cannot do all of the steps - superantispyware could not run "system admin has set policies to prevent this installation", SYpbot - could not download updates, cannot access internet, ran as many of the tools as I could and have the logs attached. Machine still loses icons after the boot up and still cannot access the internet.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

The two logs you have attached do not show any malware problems. Also note you are not using the current version of MGtools. It would be better if you got the current version installed.

I also suggest that you try uninstalling Symantec since there is a possibility that it may be causing some of your problems. We have seen this many times. So see if you can uninstall Norton Internet Security and then reboot. Now tell us where things stand. Also run the new version of MGtools and attach a new log.
