Disappearing Volume Icon in XP

After activating the volume icon for the task bar it is constantly disappearing when I boot my computer each day. I must re-activate the icon in order to get it to appear but after a reboot is is gone again. Is there a fix for this occurence?

Check to see if "SSDP Discovery" is enabled and started in services.msc. Stop the service and disable, and then see if icons still dissappear.

 

I tried what you suggested but still losing icons.

 

I recently had the same problem with my startup programs icons not all showing up at boot up.
This is gonna sound "nuts" ...but it worked for ME.
If you have a USB printer...have it turned ON before you boot up.
If you need to type a password at boot up...wait a few seconds before you type it in.
It solved my problem, so who knows?

 

I had this problem once, and it was related to the sound card driver.

If that's the case, not much you can do apart from trying another version if available.

 

If you disabled SSDP discovery and stopped it, then rebooted, then I doubt it would be the problem of loosing Icons. It has been tested on numerous machines and by turning of said service in Services.MSC, it has resolved 99.99% of the times that Icons dissappeared from the Systray (that along with turning off UPnP and disabling).
