Disassociating files from programs

I was attempting to see the content of a .prn file and when I tried to open it with a word processor program I did not notice that the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" was checked. All .prn files are now associated to Word.

What I need to know is how to disassociate the file from Word and have it not associated with any program as it had been previously or, if it did have an association to some Windows entity, get it back to that.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    j

Go into file associations and delete the file extension association. Assuming you are using XP, go to My Computer, Tools, Folder Options, and then choose the File Types tab.

    They are in alphabetical order.

    Adrynalyne,

Thank you so much. I have never done an association in XP.

    Problem solved.
