I have a HP media Center computer, which is running vista. I have 3070 mb of ram. I got my computer in March of this year.

My problem is i keep getting disconnecting from the internet since I got the thing. I have always been on cable. the first connection was a direct line into the router. I would have to reset every few days. my next connection was a wireless connection to a random router. that connection only lasted me a week. I was then able to go back to the first modem wireless (with a booster on it) this time and i had to reset every 3-4 days. I then moved to a different place the route this time was a lynksys and i couldn't keep a connection for more then 5 minutes or so.(I am wireless) So i purchased another wireless router a Belkin and we moved the router closer to to my computer. I now disconnect from the games i play every 5-10 minutes. Some times i get disconnected from the internet and sometimes i don't. if i don't get disconnected from the net i can just restart the game. If i get disconnected from the net i have to completely restart my comp.

I have spoken with tech support at hp several times and they have had me reset my comp to factory settings, then have have me download a bios and then start a new user on my comp and start using that.

there are other items i just can't get to work, my webcam is the latest (i just bought the damn thing). i guess that would be another post......

    thank you for your time

Have you tried running a network cable if only to see if the connection will stay on? I hard wire every pc in my house, inconvient as it is, for speed, security, simplicity.

I have had it hard wired in the beginning. I do have to say the issue was not as bad when i had it hard wired, but i was still having to reset the modem and router every couple days because i wasn't able to reconnect to the net after i went down. I will try it again and see how that works.

Thanks everyone for your help. a techi type friend had me do some ping tests. it is my service provider. It likes to stop transmitting for a few seconds every 3-4 minutes until it just stops all together.

I will be checking all connections. Could be that simple.

Will be trying the cable next

Thanks again, I am sure i will be back.
