Ok, folks, heres the deal, i just reinstalled XP and downloaded 2 defrag utilities: AusLogics Disk Defrag and Diskeeper Lite. First i formatted both hard drives with Auslogics but when i ran Diskeeper lite and analyzed both hard drives and it says that they are heavily fragmented, how could that be, i just defragged both with auslogics so they shouldn't be fragmented? Is Diskeeper Lite accurate? Should I defrag both hdd again using this tool and is it a good idea to have 2 different defrag utilities? I hope someone can clear this up for me.

I've been using Diskkeeper Lite for years and never had any problems or complaints, personally. I'm not real familiar with Auslogics so I can't help you there; but I don't think that having 2 defraggers is a big deal and it shouldn't effect anything negatively, but on the other hand, it may be best to stick with just one. You could always try a 3rd one (like IOBit or JK) and just run the analyzer (if it has the option) and see what it reports. I'd be interested in what happens here.....

I'm with hopperdave2000, I like Diskeeper Lite. :) But I actually have Diskeeper Pro which has more options than the Lite version. I've tried Auslogics, but I like Diskeeper Lite and Pro much better. I believe the Windows version is actually a scaled down version of the Diskeeper engine. confused:eek::major

Different users prefer different apps though, I believe you'll get quite a few different opinions on defragment utlities.

A friend of mine ;) recently suggested Auslogic Disk Defrag http://www.auslogics.com/disk-defrag/index.php

I tried it, and the program completed in just a few minutes compared to the hour that it took my XP Defragger. Is this Auslogic too good to be true? lol Or maybe I have to set it up some how? Does it matter which one I use? Is the Auslogic program meant for a quick scan frequently, then the XP deep scan used occasionally?

(Sorry to hijack yer thread, just thought that I'd ask.)

I bet anything out there is probably faster than the built in defrag utility in Windows. :D

Yeah, I am pretty sure you are right. IIRC, Microsoft licensed a barebones 'lite' version of one of the previous diskeeper versions for use in Windows XP.

I too prefer Diskeeper when it comes to defraggers. I have the Pro on my system(s) and it works great. Fast, thorough defrags, no instability or other problems whatsoever. Given that diskeeper actually has their product in windows already, it looks like the safest bet as far as choosing a third party defragger is concerned.

So, between XP Defrag, Diskeeper Lite, and Auslogic Disk Defrag, would it be safe to say that DK Lite is the best of the 3 for home use, by a general computer user?

Also, would it be safe to say to stick with only one of the programs, not jump back and forth between the three?

Thank you, again, sorry for the hijack.

I've used all of them, and I liked Diskeeper Lite the best, except for the annoyance of the pop up or whatever it is (don't remember, 'cause I've been using the Pro version for awhile). But I have Diskeeper Pro and I haven't found anything better, especially with the options it has.

But everyone has their own opinions, and you may want to develop your own, based on what you like and don't like. Diskeeper has been around for a long time, though.

I've never had any problem installing one, trying it and uninstalling it, and trying a different one. But I believe most will tell you to just stick with one, until opinions change with newer apps being developed.
