Disk doctor?

Hey,
I have an external drive and it has a ton of personal files on it and the other day it started just making funny noises and not getting past a certain part of its read so I'm thinking there are some corrupted areas on the disk. My question is whether there is a program that can scan the disk and mark those areas and allow me to still use the drive. Thanks in advance.

 

It is a compustar platinum 500GB external with the one-touch backup...hope that helps...

K i downloaded it and ran it...it passed the short generic but fail the long generic...so is that another program i can run to fix the corrupt sectors?

Alright i went through the windows fix with vista and it gets about half way and then the hardrive just starts running loops again and thats the end of the progress and the only way to stop it from going crazy is to shut it off...:confused...any other solutions? programs?
