    Hi
my main pc has after getting slower and freezing crashed
it wont even give me windows disk check or

i switch it on and it just says

"No system disk or disk error
Replace and strike any key when ready"

there is no cd rom or floppy in any drives

when i hit any key it says its attempting to read something
than goes back to the above message

    what shall i do
i have all my reboot discs that came with the pc when i bought here back in 2002 . if i go through that process does that mean all my files are lost.
    also
is there anything else i can do
my wireless connection is linked to my main pc

    help me please

Sounds like either the boot record on the disk is corrupt or the disk itself has failed. Does the PC boot from a bootable floppy or CD?

Firstly if you are prepared to open up your pc, check that the cables to the disk drive are properly pushed home at both ends.
If this doesn't help then prepare yourself to copy any data you can get at to cd if you have a writer or perhaps over your wireless net to your laptop.
Then take the failing drive out of the pc, place it into a freezer (fridge might do) for an hour and a half and then put it back into the pc. You may get one last reading of the drive with this dodge.

Post a question if you need more detail on any part of this.

You will clearly need to have a technician look at you pc to sort out your hard drive. Take the recovery disks along as well - they will be needed if a new hard drive is required. Do not take any cables or other bits of your system.

If you have a combined modem/wireless router (one box) you will be quite safe to simply leave it connected to power and the DSL line but disconnect it from the pc. you can do this whilst the box is live. Your laptop should then still receive internet.

If your internet connection is via one of the older simple usb to pc modems and the wireless router is add on I'm afraid the intelligence is in the pc not the box so the modem will not connect to internet without the pc. The latest USB types (BT voyager) hold the user name and password internally as do the combined boxes so pcs can be switched on or off disconnected or connected at will.

    Hope this helps

Imani, I don't know what country you are in or even whether you are a boy or girl. No disrespect meant.

Any reputable tech would discuss costs with you before starting work. I have a fixed charge of £30 for starting (plus parts), this would include most likely fixes you require.

If you end up needing a new hard drive, make sure the tech fits one your pc will recognise. 2002 pc's may need an upgrade to use some of today's bigger drives.
