Disk Read Error

    Greetings everyone,

    I could use some tips on how to fix a:
    "a disk read error occured. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delte to restart".
    My computer froze in midboot. I had to shut it down and the next thing I get is this error. I would like to try to avoid a reformat because I want to save my data. What can I do? I've tried using Spotmau 2008 but get the disk error. I don't have a boot floppy disc backup. I'm running XP SP3. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
