So, the display on my computer is horrible. It's wobbly, and I can't get my resolution any further than 640x480 and my colors any further than 16. When I try changing them and rebooting, upon my desktop loading the screen freezes, I see nothing but white fuzz and I have to shut the computer down manually. I tried a different monitor and that didn't work. So I tried a new video card and that didn't work either. The thing is, my computer is ooooold (Sony VAIO PCV-E302DS). It runs fine when it works but now I'm out of ideas. One thing about the monitor, though, is that it doesn't plug into the video card. It plugs into the motherboard, and everything else I plug into it works fine. I guess it could just be that it's my computer's time to go, but I thought I'd give it one last shot....... any ideas?

What version of Windows are you running? Do you have a video card installed and on board video? If so, disable the on board video, and use the card, or remove the card and use the on board video. If you have both, you're probably getting some type of conflict. It also sounds as tho' the drivers are not installed or installed incorrectly. Check the device manager for any question marks or exclamation points. If you see any, it means you have driver trouble. Also, look under Display Adapters, if it says Standard VGA Adapter (or something very similar), that means Windows is running a 'generic' driver that won't go higher than 16 colors at 640x480; it also means the video driver is not installed.....

Post back with the Windows version (98, Me, 2000, etc...) and the video card make/model and the onboard video chip make and model.

Oh yeah.... WELCOME TO MAJOR GEEKS!!! :major

    Thank you.......

I'm running 98, I have a video card installed and it worked just fine until one day my display went bananas. Like I said I replaced it and that didn't help. The video card is a Sony IFX-57 but I'm not sure of the on board video chip? I'm pretty dumb when it comes to computers....... ;)
Earlier today I tried doing a system recovery and that did nothing. I also chatted with an analyst on the Sony website, he told me to try reinstalling my audio driver (but couldn't provide a link to do so), and then told me to try removing the memory module and securely reinserting it, then to reset the BIOS to default settings and check that.
