    Hi dlb

    "missing"

But as this is XP Home and it dont have gpedit built in then open a CMD prompt and enter this line

    REG ADD "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer" /V ClassicShell /T REG_DWORD /F /D 0

worked for me once on an XP Home PC, but if not then what other info can you give us like has this machine been cleaned of malware reciently, is it a corporate PC etc

Thanks Halo! I actually found the fix for it myself, and it's exactly what you posted. But just to clarify, the PC had been cleaned of malware recently. The 'desktop' tab was the last thing I needed to correct to bring things back to 100%..... Thanks!

(I should have checked back here sooner ;) )
