Hey, Came here with a rootkit and a google redirect a couple weeks ago and got that worked out (thanks again). I think that either the process of fixing the malware or the malware itself affected my display settings. They won't stay the way I set them after restarting, but it didn't seem to be a consistent thing every time I restart the computer until a few days ago.
Only affects the Display Properties>Appearance tab as far as I know, where I keep having to change the default color scheme to silver.
Poked around in the registry a bit with RegSeeker, but can't seem to locate the pertinent keys.
    Any ideas?

As you are not directly seeking help with malware removal this time, I have moved your post to a more suitable area of the forum.

I have just these suggestions to make -You may need to reinstall the graphics, or, chipset driver. In cleaning up, its possible that a file/s have been corrupted. I have not used XP MCE, but other laptops/versions of Xp, Vista, and Windows 7can use the sfc/scannow , with the disc in the rom, and repair syatem file, if they have been mutilated in the clean up.
You probably know, but to remind you
    Start
    Run#Type in
    sfc /scannow

Agh, sadly this computer didn't come with the original install discs, they wanted to charge me an extra $100 or $150 to get them.
*Didn't know (or remember, maybe) the scannow command, but I'll definitely remember it. thanks.

I'm kind of surprised it would be related to the driver, seems like it would be a registry thing since the settings stay til I shut down. Then again, I don't have anything more than a super basic knowledge of the inner workings of a computer
