I have Windows 7 64, when I try to update Adobe reader or install Silverlight and some other programs I get error codes; 1603 1644 dll or what have you.

Can I use recovery discs on my Asus computer and repair the Windows install or will that just flat out start all from scratch?

You need to be a bit clearer on the errors.
Also, what Microsoft uninstall tool are you referring to?

What version of Adobe Reader is on your Win 7 computer?
What version of Silverlight is on your computer?

    The Adobe reader is 9.4
I don't know what Silverlight there is because although it shows up on CCleaner's uninstall list, I can't find the program anywhere and can't run web pages that use it.
The tool I used last night was the Windows Uninstall Tool.

For Silverlight, I uninstall from CCLeaner, goes through the steps and confirms, then try to install latest .exe file from Silverlight but gives me a "Installation failed 1603" message and that's it. At that point, on CCLeaners uninstall section there is a Silverlight entry of 45kb but that's it.

For Adobe reader, if I try to install the new 10.1 version it will go throught the motion and then give me a 1604 error code.

There is no "Windows Uninstall Tool". Look at this page which lists 27 different uninstall programs.
    http://www.webtothumb.com/Windows-Uninstall-Tool.html
which if any of those, looks like what you tried to use.

unfortunately, there is no 1604 error mentioned. I don't know what to say about that.

    Go to this page http://www.silverlightversion.com/
and it will show you what version of Silverlight is installed. (I use FF and I had to enable silverlightversion to see what was on my computer).

You can use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459) to uninstall the current version of Adobe Reader.

If you still have problems, please quote the exact message you are getting.

Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, that's the tool I meant that I used when I said Windows Uninstall tool...
Silverlight version is 0.000.000, so it seems to be gone. Still can't install anew, that gives me a Message ID 1603, install failed.
Adobe Reader installation gives me "Error 1402 could not open key" and a large string of characters. It says to verify I have access to key which as Admin, I should.

    I'll try that.
If that doesn't work I think I will just go ahead and do the recovery process and reset the whole damned thing to factory.

There is no key for Adobe Reader; it is free software.
Are you trying to install another paid Adobe product?
