DLL error. Do I need to reformat??

I receive the following message: "DLL module TODGUB6.DLL is missing, corrupt, or incompatible with the current version of True OLE DBGrid6. DataMode will be set to dbgBound." each time I start a program I loaded called WizeTrade a few weeks ago. Part of the program works and part of it does not work.

I have worked with the tech people for the software and they tell me I have to reformat my hard drive because of a malware called WinTools. (I found no trace of this malware.)

Besides other spyware programs I have followed EVERY step in "READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support. My system seems to be cleaned and rid of all infections. I have done system restores and uninstalled and reinstalled the WizeTrade program and I still receive the same error.

Any help other than having to reformat my drive would be appreciated.

My operating system is Windows XP Home Addition, Service Pack 2; CPU is Mobile Intel Pentium M, 1316 MHz (3.5 x376); System Memory is 512 MB (DDR SDRAM).

Sometimes VERY SLOWLY, other times it seems pretty normal.
When I reboot I keep getting a message from Spy Sweeper that Logitech Destop Messenger is trying to load with the details as follows: "HKCU\..\Run: [LDM] C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\LogitechDesktopMessenger.exe". This is one of the HijackThis items that you had me fix. I say no to remove it, but each reboot it comes up again.

I also ran a program called PC Mighty Mac. It told me I had 870 some errors. I hadn't paid for the subscription part to fix the errors so I ran a deep scan with Registry Mechanic and it came up with 620 some errors. I had paid for that program so I had it fix them. I then reran the PC Mighty Mac and now it tells me I have 247 errors. Do you think I should pay for a week's subscription to delete or fix those errors?

I did have to reload a TrayApp file from my HP photo printer disk after I did those fixes, which I have had to do before when I have done some fixes and then rebooted.

I also tend to have a slow shut down process, with a few different files popping up and slowly shutting down or they stop and I have to click the 'end program' button.

I get a few errors with Eudora once in a while like "Ordinal 49 cannot be found" and a Capp.exe conflict with Norton Antivirus. The first one I usually just click okay and Eudora works fine. With the second one I usually have to shut down and reload Eudora and then it is fine.

Thank you for your help.

Jennifer

Uninstall the Logitech Desktop Messenger using Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

Open REGEDIT navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and DELETE the following Registry key:
[LDM] C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\LogitechDesktopMessenger.exe

Don't worry about MyWay it is something Dell saddled you with and is a minor annoyance.

Take a look at your startup programs and determine what you don't need and disable them from starting at system boot. The more you have running at startup the longer it will take for your system to boot and power down.

Disable System Restore and then enable System Restore. This will flush all your restore points and create a new clean one for your system.

>Uninstall the Logitech Desktop Messenger using Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel
I wasn't able to do this. While the InstallShield Wizard was loading, I get a pop up that says "An error occurred while launching the setup. Error loading type library/DLL." Therefore I didn't do the next step you suggested of deleting the registry key.

I did uninstall another program called Logitech Desktop Resource Center using the Add/Remove program.

Regarding the startup programs. I am not sure what this was correct, but what I did was right clicked on the task bar, clicked on properties then start menu tab, chose classic stat menu, customize and then remove. I removed most everything there. I really don't understand how or why many of the items were there.

I did disable the system restore, rebooted and enabled the system restore.

Things still seem slow and the original problem is still there. Any other suggestions?

Yes, I have tried 3 times to uninstall and reinstall the program. I tried the program on a friend's computer and it worked perfectly without the dll error message. As I stated in my first message some of the program works on my computer, but parts of it do not.

According to the directions in the article "Read & Run Me First....", regarding the Ccleaner software, it says not to run any other options from other tabs. Can you tell me why not? I scanned for issues and found one that is related to my problem.

Under Registry issues and under Active X and Class issues, I found the following information:
Problem: ActiveX/COM issue
Data: APEXUnboundDataSource - {D8628080-E648-11D1-A9C5-16A32C000000}
Registry Key: HKCR\APEXUnbound Data Source

I know this is related to the TODGUB6.DLL file, because when I do a search for that file and put the cursor on the file name I get information that the file comes from APEX Corp.

Do you think it would be safe to have Ccleaner fix the registry problem? Also I see other items that seem like it would be good to have Ccleaner fix - like problems that relate to the Logitech Desktop Manager that I am unable to uninstall from the Add/Remove section. That is why I am wondering why the information says not to run any other options from the other tabs under the Ccleaner program.

If I do have Ccleaner fix that particular problem should I then uninstall the WizeTrade program and reninstall or should I try the program first to see if I get the original error again?

Also with Ccleaner I did a scan or analze for startup items and it showed a lot of stuff. Would it be safe to use that problem to get rid of many of those start up items?

The reason it said that in the READ ME is that too many people would click on the Issues tab and just click fix without really checking whether the information supplied is really correct. And then they would click Fix and many did this without creating a backup. Blindly using any registry checker like can be a very bad thing to do. Even with a backup of the registry created, it may not do you much good if the PC will not even boot. Thus, since this can be so dangerous, we made the decision to specifically point out not to use that feature for safety. In addition, there are many tools specifically design to check the registry for problems and may do a better and safer job.

You can use CCcleaner to Uninstall Logitech DM using Ccleaner's Uninstall tool. You don't have to immediately use the registry repair component. We use other methods to uninstall programs. Sometimes things like CCleaner and even HijackThis has an uninstall feature and there are several others that do it automatically. We sometimes even create very specific registry patches to remove only the item from the installed programs list.

You are welcome to run Ccleaner (at your own risk) but back up the registry first and only select fixes that seem to make sense. Like for programs that you know have been uninstalled and you do not use etc. But read through all of this message before doing anything.

I found the below info on page 16 of this document http://support.evolusoft.com/downloads/usermanualclient.pdf does this help you.

How any of this will affect WizeTrade we would not know. If the above info does not help, yes you always have the option to reinstall it after using Ccleaner to repair registry issues.

You should not try to use CCleaner to get rid of unwanted startups. Uninstall any that you do not want ever to load. For others, use a program like Startup CPL

I tried uninstalling the Logitech DM using the Ccleaner program, but the same error came up as when I tried to uninstall it through the Windows Add/Remove section as stated above.

I had found the same information as you quoted from evolusoft and did follow those exact steps. This was before I even found this forum. When I got to number 4, I got a message something to the effect that the file wasn't there and then when I opened the Wizetrade program the same error came up.

I am wondering if I should use the exact path of where that file is and follow those steps? The path is as follows: C:\Program Files\Globaltec Solutions\Common\todgub6.dll. Would I use the command: regsvr32 todgub6.dll /u as is stated in step 3 and then do step 4 as it says? I don't understand how this all works or where the file would come from when they say "...download the file again by browsing to the page where you received the error..." so it scares me to do these things without understanding the whys of what I trying.

New things are happening with my computer such as longer shut downs with more "ending program" pop-ups and more errors when I start up and my computer is hanging and freezing more and is way slower!! It also keeps telling me that I am running out of disk space even after I have uninstalled stuff and deleted old downloaded files. I will write out some of those start up and shut down errors later, but I did want to know what you thought regarding the above issue first. I did do Disk Cleanup and I am going to do a defrag tonight.

Try using Your Uninstaller! 2006 5.0.0.221 to cleanup the Logitech DM problem.

Yes you can try using the full path to the DLL and see if regsrv32 works. But are you sure the software for this in not still installed. What is GlobalTec Solutions? Did you check Add/Remove programs for uninstallers.

I noticed you never installed the correct version of HJT! Please follow the steps and the link in step 7 of the READ & RUN ME and get the proper version (1.99.1) installed. Then attach a new log.

I downloaded Your Uninstaller! and was able to uninstall Logitech Desktop Manager.

I was able to download HJT version 1.99.1 and have attached a new log.

I will address the DLL issue in a bit.

Well your HJT log is basically clean (other than some mild dell myway junk which some of us prefer to remove).

You do not seem to have any malware issues. You just seemed to be running a lot of stuff. Some may be un-necessary.

I definitely would not keep both Spy Sweeper and MS Antispyware running. If you have a paid subscription to Spy Sweeper and keep it updated then uninstall MS Antispyware. Otherwise uninstall Spy Sweeper and keep MS AS.

Regarding the DLL path for todgub6.dll. GlobalTec Solutions is the company that developed the WizeTrade software. So when I can see the file in the path given above, it is while the WizeTrade program is already installed. When I uninstall the program the file is gone. The file appears again after the program is re-installed. Therefore I do not understand the reasoning to try to perform the regsvr32 step while the program is not installed.

Upon reading the last line of the instructions by e-volusoft in regards to this file, "Once these steps have been done try to download the file again by browsing to the page where you received the error, the file should download without problems.", I thought that if I did step 3 and step 4 in those instructions and then restarted the program that maybe the 'newer' version would download. I don't quite understand how that would work, but the program does do a step when loading that says "OCX/DLL Registering", then it does something called "authenticating". The program then connects to streaming data from the stock market. It is after these processes when I get the origianl error as explained in my first message to this forum and I click okay, I get the same message again and then I can work within the program except for certain parts of the program.

This is not a problem with malware. It is a problem with the program itself or a possible conflict with something on your system that prevents it from being install correctly. Your first message said:
Which seems to imply that the DLL being downloaded is not valid for use with True OLE DBGrid6. The DBGrid6 item is probably some type of Visual Basic control. So somewhere along the way some one has not put the proper versions of the files on your system.

Again this is not a malware problem but let me see if I can look at one more thing before sending you to the Software Forum or back to the manufacturer. Please follow the steps in the below link and attach the log:

Using GetRunKey

Another user here on MGs named Matacumbie came across the below link which discusses a similar problem to yours with a different program and a differnet version of the same DLL file. It explains that unregistering and re-registering would not work because the actually registry key path was corrupted and registering will not fix.

See the last message in: http://list.umassmed.edu/read/messages?id=57512

I was so excited when I read the message about unregistering and registering the todgub6.dll file, but then... I tried both unregistering and registering and received the following message each time.
"LoadLibrary("C:\Program") failed - The specified module could not be found." I tried the regsvr32 /u command from the C:\ directory with the full path in the command line and I tried changing the directory to the path C:\Program Files\Globaltec Solutions, LLP\Common and then did the command regsvr32 /u todgub6.dll. Both ways I received the same error message.

I have no clue how to attempt step 2.

Attached is the file you asked for using GetRunKey. The actual file name asked for "runkeys.txt" was blank. There were about 15 other files created that have one line or so in them named from xkey00.txt to xkey22.txt.

What step 2 is saying is that if you install the programs onto another PC and it works okay, you can then copy the registry key from the working PC to the damaged PC. The trick is identifying the exact registry key to copy. It may or may not have the same name as what is mentioned in that link since your problem is with a different piece of software. You need to work this out with the company providing the software. This is not a problem related to malware.

You could possibly (a big maybe) fix it by uninstalling the software completely. Then reboot your PC and cleanup and folders and files left hanging around from the program. Then a registry cleanup tool could be run to hopefully repair any junk left around from the program (along with other old junk). Then after another reboot, reinstall and see what happens.

You did not install and run the program properly. You needed to extract both files from the ZIP file into the same folder. You probably did not extract the grep.exe file and that is the result you would get. Don't worry about it know though. It did not show me anything that would indicate a problem.

How do I do a "cleanup" of folders and files left hanging around from the program?

What registry cleanup tool should I use?

24. chaslang

chaslang MajorGeeks Admin - Master Malware Expert Staff Member

Delete any files or folders that may be left hanging around after the uninstall and reboot. One folder you have mentions is: C:\Program Files\Globaltec Solutions

You could use a program like RegCleaner

It has an automatic backup feature!

I did the uninstall thing again, deleted any files and folders left over and used the RegCleaner. I reinstalled and still the same error!!

I now have access to another computer, installed the software and it works fine, no DLL error!! So how EXACTLY how do I do the process in step 2 above that requires copying the registry key?

26. chaslang

chaslang MajorGeeks Admin - Master Malware Expert Staff Member

I don't know! You will have to speak to the company who created the buggy software that does not uninstall properly. I'm not sure if the registry key will be the same as in that message or not. I have no idea what this program you are using installs or where it installs it. My suggestion is that you talk to their tech support and if they cannot help you, ask them how you get a refund for their software that does not work properly.

Your other alternatives are to reinstall your OS from start?
Install the software on another computer and if it works, use that computer instead.

Your problem is not malware and don't let them tell you that it is.
