Does anyone know anything about DNA Downloader - a P2P program?
It appeared on my son's Vista PC the other day and downloaded stuff for about 5 days before we could figure out what was happening. We don't know how it got there, or what it was downloading, but it sure made a hole in our monthly usage allowance!!!
I looked it up on the Web, but couldn't find anything about why it should act so mysteriously.

I'm assuming you mean this: http://www.bittorrent.com/dna

It's a program that someone installed. It does not install by itself. We obviously don't recommend any P2P or torrent type downloading programs in this forum so uninstall it if you don't want it to waste your internet BW. Thousands of people from all of the world can be trying to connect to and download from your PC if you use programs like this.

Thanks Chaslang. That looks like the one. I am a bit puzzled as it was doing far more downloading than uploading - about 10 to 1 ratio. We couldn't figure what it was downloading, or why, or where it was putting it all. About 600 MB a day on average.
We did get rid of it. My son denies having put it there. Hmmmm... Other people do use his computer, so maybe it wasn't him. He didn't seem to know anything about it.
Meanwhile, we have something else going on - something else continually downloading on the same computer, but I have started a new thread for that, so I won't try to jump the queue.
    Thanks again.

Not sure exactly what was happening but these P2P programs open up your PC to act like a server and you could literally get hundreds or thousands of people trying to connect to you from anywhere in the world depending on what files were being shared and their popularity.

Okay we will look at this in your other thread.
