Do I need a software firewall if I have a hardware one?

I want to get a BELKIN ADSL MODEM WITH BUILT-IN 802.11G 54MBPS WIRELESS ROUTER and I was wondering, since that has a firewall built into it, do I still need to use my Norton Personal Firewall?

Also, while on the subject, the subscription to Norton internet security, is that just the price of keeping the antivirus updated, or is it the price of keeping the firewall and the anti-virus?

I would personally keep a software firewall as the routers firewall ( NAT ) only iirc on consumer routers only blocks incoming and not outgoing data, this is where a software firewall can help block or alert you to potential problems eg. Spyware, Trojans wanting to phone home.

as to the subscription I do think its only for virus definition files http://www.symantecstore.com/dr/v2/ec_main.entry11?sp=10344&pn=3&xid=27674 ( but dont quote me ), if you wanted to end using Norton then here at Majorgeeks we have a few good FREE antivirus and firewall programs in our downloads section http://www.majorgeeks.com/
