Do I Really Need Wps/kingsoft Office Software?

On 3/23/26, I got email saying my Kingsoft Office Software Corporation Limited subscription would renew on 3/31 for $59.99. It came from upcoming-invoice+acct_1ajifiizqvv8ytsz@stripe.com

Then I got a notice saying WPS 3/31 saying my credit card won't process their bill for $59.99, asking me to update my payment information. I advised them they have the correct credit card info but they sent me another notice today.

According to the info at Major Geeks, WPS is free. I checked and I do have it, but I don't set up charts or anything fancy. Do I need to pay for this?

No, this is a scam to simply get your credit card info. Please do not click o any links from this entity and in fact block the email and delete it.

Wow, I checked after I posted here and I actually did pay for this in 2024 and possibly 2025. (I guess I shouldn't have.) I see your certification and that plodr agrees, so I won't pay them. Thank you; I was just about to give them a different credit card! So nothing will change on my desktop computer if I don't renew?

I would just download Libreoffice (or Openoffice for that matter). They are both free, have been around for ages, and can be used to open Word and Excel files. They also include a drawing app and other apps.

LibreOffice is bloated compared to FreeOffice, for those of us looking at space on the hard drive.
On average, a full installation of LibreOffice typically requires between 300 MB to 1 GB.
I can't find sizes for each of the 3 components of FreeOffice. The best I can do is look at the properties and it says a total of 155 MB. Since I don't have all 3 installed, it takes up less space than that on my computers.

Free Office also allows you to only install what you need. I installed the "Word" and "Excel" portions but not the "Power Point" portion. I've been using it on my laptop and desktop for years. (both very, very old computers where I occasionally need to look at a Word file or a database).

Thanks for the info guys! I'll keep it in mind. I'm limping along on Windows 10 and don't need anything like Excel or Power Point at this time.
