    Do microphones count as hardware here? If so...

    I bought an ATR20 microphone today and attemted to hook it up to my PC only to find that when I tried adjusting the mic's volume, it gave me the basic options but in the bottom portion it listed the old microphone I had (Realtek AC97 Audio... I think this is a mic anyways). Anyhow, I tried using my new mic to no sound whatsoever. It was on and it was plugged into the mic input, so I was wondering if there was anyway to fix it.

    hey there,

    I think (don't quote me) that "Realtek AC97 Audio" is just an audio driver for your PC, nothing really to do with your microphone, except that it just means that your PC knows what it is. Have you tried;

    double click the speaker icon next to the windows clock --> make sure the microphone bar isn't checked (ie not muted) --> if you can't see a microphone bar go to "Options, Properties" then select microphone and the bar should appear. Make sure you're in the Playback and not Recording section.

    Any luck?
