Hey fellow geeks, I am teaching a class to senior-citizen new users of Windows 8. One person in my class brought a pamphlet with him that came with his HP computer. The pamphlet was titled Windows 8 Basics and he simply asked wanted to know my opinion of the pamphlet. Since it was the same pamphlet that came with my HP laptop (purchased early March), I had seen it and told him it was a good basic reference for getting familiar with Windows 8.

I would guess all manufacturers package their Windows 8 computers with a similar pamphlet. But, I would like to get some confirmation of that from some of you have purchased other brands of computers with Windows 8. Did your computer come with some printed material on Windows 8 basics?

I own a small PC sales and repair shop. Since Windows 8 came out, I have sold new-in-box notebook PCs made by Acer, Lenovo and Dell. The only "documentation" that came with any of them was a single sheet showing how to attach the battery - no printed material about Windows 8.

You might want to check out the Microsoft Windows 8 "How To" page to see if it has the information you're looking for:

    Hope this helps. :)

Everything is electronic now days. If you want some material to teach the class, Microsoft has a lot of good info, along with videos.

Thee really is no longer one size fits all documentation for computers. Now of course if you want to make things simple, get the Windows 8 for Dummies course and DVD, and use that.

The only problem with teaching others this stuff, is that you tend to have some that still go way to in depth technically, and then you have the ones, that treat their students like they are three years old, which ends up frustrating the students even more.

I left out that is that any manufacturer instructions is actually going to be in a folder, labeled in the Start menu or on Metro all apps, something like "Toshiba care and use", or "Toshiba Windows 8 user guide", etc.
