    Hi all

Just curious as to if any of you support small new startups via crowdfunding sites like Kickstarter, Indiegogo etc?

I have over the past year and only really as a doctor I worked with in the past emailed me on a project he was working on that I really caught the bug of funding small startups (supported 6 projects so far), yes while may may not work out many do and I have gotten some really neat perks of being a supporter, mainly you get items cheaper and some perks.

Does not have to be huge sums of cash you part with, but need to really look at projects you know may end up being built or really only fund if you can afford too, but most projects only need small sums to support them.

Indiegogo is my fav site for this.

I've supported a few, but I'm only about 50% on actually getting the product I pledged to support. One of them simply failed, one of them had delay after delay for over a year before I finally contacted them for a refund (which took another six months to show up). One was not at all what I thought it would end up being. But I have gotten three different things that were better than expected, so overall it's been a win.

I love the idea, but have not donated to any yet. As Sgt. Tibbs said, a lot of projects get money, and go away. I love how you can search around and find people who really need help via the internet as opposed to a charity 'corporation' that may only give a small percentage of the money they raise to the actual people that need it.

Yeah Beth, I'm 50% on getting the products that I supported but I know that in general they are not quick, have had in the past great support from new businesses, and think the current ones I supported will deliver and one will in the next month as chatted with the owner the other day with new ideas for him and his product.

I think if you can take a punt and gamble some new ideas are worth taking a chance on, and I do keep looking on indegogo for what looks good and is it something I want.

@Fred - Agreed and many do go away but you have to judge what is a winner of an idea that will likely be made, I have one that I was sceptical about but its in production now... I have a MAJOR issue with charities and does all the donations go to the needy or the folk running them as we have had some high profile issues in the UK of late.

I dont personally think there should be duplicated charities as in say 5 for animals or cancer, why just not one! I did a search yesterday as this very topic cropped up in conversation in my office and I found the UK has 168K charities.... WHY? what do they all achieve? some will be great but some will have no funds or power to do anything and should be incorporated in larger ones doing same task.

This is one of my recent crowdfunds and Luke the company founder is really a nice guy who does quickly respond to ideas and emails.
