Does anyone know if old pc games will work with vista?
    Games from 1998 etc?
It would annoying if i installed vista after it comes out and try to run older pc games and find out that they don't run.

Should be able to select properties of a game and have it run in xxxx mode.

I would be tempted to re-ask that question in 8 months time for a better answer, as TimW said, Vista does have the same compatability mode as XP has tho, but still no guarentee that older games will work, similar to other applications as most will need updates in order to satisfy the newer security blocks in the code.

It may probably be better, eventually, to fit a second hard drive if possible, and install Vista on your new drive for Vista stuff, and leave your old hard drive untouched by Vista, for your old games, etc.

Of course, most laptops only have provision for 1 hard drive in the body of the case.
If you have a laptop, you could always fit your old hard drive, from a laptop, to an external USB enclosure, if you want to. Bazza

A few issues, some driver ones in this 5384 build at present for me as I opted for the 64bit Vista one this time around, but bugs come...go...or linger around for a few builds....

For me its starting to get pretty stable but this Beta2 build for WinHEC released to BTs, MSDN and WinHEC attendees, doesnt seem a massive jump from the last build (5381) but I havnt tested it fully yet... thats a weekend job.

Have you tried the Vista Upgrade Advisor yet Hugh? ( its an early test for Vista's compatability with your current PC and some of the installed drivers and software )

I've got no doubt it'll run fine on mine, but with regards to games, even if you can't run it in xp compatibility, chances are that the manufacturers will release patches that will make it backwards compatible.

The tests are not with 1998 games but some common ones from the past year or so, but will give some an idea of what could run or not

as always, there is 7mths or so left before release so much can change as to compatiblity as the 3rd party devs will have to do their bit too.
