How effective is arctic silver? My PC was fine up until a couple of days ago when i saw the temp at 67 degrees and M/B was climbing to 57 degrees (both in celcius). This happened before and i applied arctic silver and the temperatures decresed significantly to 34 degrees and M/B to 29 degrees (celcius). I cant keep applying arctic silver every week. Maybe i need more fans? I dont know anymore.

I think it works! Use it in all my computers. If you think you may need more fans, try running the computer with the side off the case and a household fan blowing into the case.

After re-reading your post, you may have some other issues with your cooling set up. What kind of computer are we talking about?

Even through people believe a giant fan blowing into a case with the side off helps, often it really doesn't, because your airflow is crappy then, need to make the airflow work for you better then that.

its built for not the best gaming but the best that i could afford and ive only had it for a year now. I stated which motherboard i have, which vga card im using and my power supply. i have an intel core 2 duo, i have a 420 GB SATA hard drive and a regular cd/dvd burner. the case even came with its own mini fan. i tried the household fan idea and it didn't do that much. right now my pc is laid flat. umm i don't know what else to tell you. if you need anymore details let me know and what kind of issues would i have with my cooling set up? this sucks cause ive had it for a little over a year now and i dont know if these types of problems arise out of the blue or if its something i did. i did move around the computer from the top of my computer table to underneath it. maybe something moved from the inside but i seriously doubt it cause i retightened everything anyway just to be safe.

Reset your CPU heatsink. Could be the problem.

    this.

either your heatsink keeps slipping off just enough for it to not get proper contact, or the fins on your heatsink are clogged with dust, thus air can't move through them to wick away the heat.

it definitely was the heat sink. I guess it must've slipped out just enough when i was moving the computer around. Thanks all of you not only for fixing the problem but for the quick responses. I mean i didn't have to wait for more than a 12 hour period to get a response and thats not something you get anywhere else.
